What is emerging from ERS Task Forces in terms of outcome measures for adult respiratory disease

Symposium
Chairs: M.A. Spruit (Horn, The Netherlands), T. Troosters (Leuven, Belgium)
Aims: The aims of this session are to:
- provide an executive summary overview of three recent documents that were produced in the field of non-respiratory assessment of patients with lung disease. The skeletal muscle dysfunction, physical activity and (field) walking tests were originally developed for pulmonary rehabilitation programmes but are now slowly becoming recognised clinical screening tools and even outcomes for pharmacological and non-pharmacological clinical trials;
- discuss the context of use of these outcome measures; and
- discuss a policy statement that is currently being developed for pulmonary rehabilitation as a spin off of the recent ‘ATS-ERS statement on pulmonary rehabilitation’. A framework for this policy statement will be provided and audience input is sought for the discussion points of the policy statement.
