From bench to bronchiole: translational immunology and airways disease
Symposium Chairs: S. Chotirmall (Dublin, Ireland), D. Hartl (Tuebingen, Germany), P.W. Finn (Chicago, United States of America)
Aims: The aims of the symposium are:
- To describe the clinical burden and challenge of phenotyping airways disease from an experimental, clinical and translational perspective;
- To highlight the impact of novel immunological pathways in the molecular/cellular pathogenesis of major respiratory diseases (including asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis and alpha-1 anti-trypsin deficiency) and to show how our understanding of such pathways can be translated into patient focused clinical investigations;
- To show how specific immunological pathways can impact multiple airway disorders (e.g. Th17 pathways); and,
- To identify potential novel therapeutic targets in airway disease and how these may be approached from a translational perspective.
