Aims: This course will provide an overview of pleural problems in everyday practice. The specific aims of this course are:
• to provide an update on: treatment of empyema, diagnosis of pleural effusions, pleurodesis techniques and pneumothorax treatment;
• to provide information on surgical procedures;
• to discuss indications and results;
• to describe basic pleural techniques such as thoracentesis, drainage and management of chest tubes.
