EW31 Chest tube and indwelling catheter placement and management

Aims: This workshop is jointly organised by the ERS and CHEST. Participants will be taught techniques that are required to successfully place the indwelling pleural catheters (IPCs) and chest tubes that are needed to drain fluid from the lung. Learners will use models to develop their practical skills.
Workstation 1: Case examples will be used to demonstrate how medical professionals can best accommodate the needs of the patient.
Workstation 2: This workstation will demonstrate how to correctly insert and regulate IPCs.
Workstation 3: This workstation will demonstrate how to correctly manage the insertion of chest tubes to drain fluid from the lungs.
Workstation 4: Case examples will illustrate the indications for the use of chest tubes and IPCs. How these indications have been managed will be discussed.
Target audience: Fellows, residents, pulmonologists and surgeons.
